The Visitor Center...

Welcome to the website of the Quang Tri Humanitarian Mine Action Visitor Center! Established by Project RENEW and the Quang Tri Province Department of Foreign Affairs, the visitor center is home to information and exhibits which explain mine action efforts in Quang Tri Province.

More than three decades after the war ended, cluster bombs, landmines, and other unexploded ordnance still pose a serious threat to the people of Vietnam. These dangerous munitions have resulted in over 100,000 casualties nationwide since 1975. To provide international visitors and younger Vietnamese born after the war with a deeper understanding of the lasting consequences of the war, the Visitor Center features exhibits and artifacts illustrating past and present efforts to rid Quang Tri Province of the threat posed by unexploded ordnance.

In July 2011, the Visitor Center was opened to the public at the Kids First Village in Dong Ha City. Hours are from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and there is no admission fee. However, donations to support Project RENEW's mine action programs are appreciated.

Visitors are encouraged not only to explore the exhibits, but also to take advantage of the many other services provided by the Visitor Center including the multi-functional media room where documentaries and feature films may be shown about the history and consequences of the war. The Café serves an assortment of beverages and small snacks. Visitors can purchase publications, souvenirs, locally made handicrafts and other merchandise at the souvenir booth. All proceeds help fund Quang Tri mine action work.
